For church and love of music
Wonderful! There are multiple people who have used this training to help play at their church. 🙂
I love music
I am kind of finding it hard to understand the keys when a song is being played, please can you do a video on that and please can you also do a video on ear training.
There’s ear training in the members area to help with that, but here are some quick tips:
To find the key of a song, try to find what chord makes the chord sound “done”, or “resolved”, meaning it would be a good chord to end on. It’s very likely that the first chord of a song is the key of the song, and it’s even more likely that the last chord of a song is the key of a song, because songs usually end feeling “resolved”. Not all the time, but more often than not.
While a song is playing, plink along on the piano notes to try to see if you can tell what chords are being played (you’d be looking for the “root” note of the chord, meaning if a C-Major chord was being played, you’d be trying to find the “C” root note to play along with. At any point in the song if you find a chord that it feels like the song could end on, that’s probably the key of the song. While there are always exceptions, this is a good guideline/rule to follow, hope that helps.
Lesson # 1 was rewarding and awesome.
I want to learn piano without music sheet
Great, that’s what this training is all about! 🙂
IT IS A LIFE TIME DREAM. I LOVE MUSIC
I have always had a desire to learn piano and there is also a story teller /song writer inside of me. I feel if I apply myself and learn to play piano this will help me unlock my talent for songwriting in a greater measure
Perfect! Personally, the fact that you can “see” the piano keys laid out and be able to visualize where the next chord is etc is much easier than other instruments like guitar, where you’re changing chords but you don’t have a sense of “space” between the chords and how they fit together. You’re in the right place.
I’m excited to find this page. I would like to play for myself, friends, family and special occasions like church gatherings.
I love to play for myself and families and contribute my talents to church if possible especially to children . Thanks Tim I am at my 63 years. Enjoy your lesson slow and easy .

This is really helpful. Thanks a lot!!
I’m 54 years old and have never played any musical instrument. I am recently retired and i want to learn to play piano to enjoy myself and also with family & friends. Thanks!
good learning
When I grew up to the age of 17, I got impressed and eager to learn a piano as I saw my elder brother play, but he had no time to do so. I kept this hunger(of wanting to learn how to play it) not until 2020 where I could force my self to just play around with it even when the harmony is so weird, to sincerely tell you that when I saw your free Sample videos of the chords, number system I just concluded that this will be my “starting point” and I really want to learn because of all the musical instruments it is the piano which is my best and number one; it is my great pleasure to talk to you. Thank you!
That’s great Gabriel, enjoy the journey. 🙂
I really love it ❤️
I have tried many different techniques to play the piano that got me nowhere. There was just no or little progression. Your number system speaks to me….The main reason I want to play is that the piano is such a beautiful instrument, I already play some bass and guitar but playing the piano was always the number one on my list. For some reason your approach feels very natural to me. Greetings from The Netherlands.
Wonderful to hear! Greetings to you as well, Rob.
You are an amazing person, and so very talented. The most shocking thing (besides the fact that you break everything down to such simple, understandable pieces) is that it’s free !!!! I have seen many people ask for abnormal amounts of money for far less (and nearly nothing). This is so amazing. Thank you for teaching me so much already after just two videos. I have accessed the page with guitar chords for my favorite songs and played them effortlessly after only one video of yours. Thank you, thank you a million times!!
I love to sing and also want to back up my song with piano
I personally enjoy worshipping the Lord. Anytime I watched videos of gospel music groups like hillsong, maverick city etc and I see their pianists performing in the spirit I wished I had the ability to be praising and worshiping God with the piano too
I used to play piano from when I was 12 years old. I was fairly good in the traditional Iranian classical music. But unfortunately left it unfinished. Now I want to restart but this time in blues and similar music. Very different but both enjoyable.
I was almost GIVING up until i came across Your videos atleast now i do know
I was very impressed with the way you teach piano on your on your Youtube Channel. I want to learn to play piano to enjoy myself & also with family & friends. I am 72 years old & have never played any musical instrument before. Looking forward. Thanks
One phrase, “Thank you, Tim.”
Is there any way I can download your videos and have them on my phone and/or IPad to study over and over again?
They’re not made to be downloadable but they are permanently available online. I make changes to some of the videos over time, and this way you always are watching whatever the newest/best versions of the videos. 🙂
I’m extremely excited to learn. My father motivated me and sent me your videos .I have been watching you on you tube and I can’t wait to learn from you!
That’s great to hear, Rhonda. 🙂
l like your initial tutorials send me more
As a casual, family and church musician, who is blind, I wish to open up the beautiful landscape of piano playing and music composition to my own teen-age children. I pray children and people of all ages can remember and appreciate music as a universal language that anyone and everyone will be able to speak, love and communicate with their own personal touch.
That’s wonderful, Ron! 🙂
I’m 41 and It’s 14th October 2020 and I’m starting today! I had lessons when I was young but they never sank in and were very boring, but piano is always something I’ve wanted to learn. And your way is very entertaining and informative. I watched two videos of yours on youtube and I knew straight away that you were the one who is gonna help me pick this up properly so I look forward to learning to play quickly lol
Thank you so much ??❤️☺️
Wonderful Deborah, glad you’re here!
I”m really eager and excited to try and learn the system. I will watch and absorb as much teaching lessons as i can. In the end, i hope to use everything i learned and finally make some beautiful and awesome music. Thanks a lot for helping me and others in our quest to play the keyboard and make the music feed the soul.
I have leaned how to play all major and minor chords by watching the videos couple of time .. I have been watching a lot of YouTube video, but this one was the must easy one . Step by step method for anyone to understand . I have taken class online there nothing like this one.. thank you so much for your time!
I feel like I’ve been sitting on my talent for way too long and I think it’s time I cleaned up my act ??
Excellent, this is a great time to re-think things and focus on what interests you if you can!
a passion for ministry.
I played music in high school, had kids young… then BOOM, I’m 55 and I just don’t care about anything else – it’s “Me Time” now. I had a brief interlude/breakdown when the kids were pre-school… bought a keyboard, looked up songs on guitar tabs, then figured out the piano fingering from there… Taught my 4 year old (at the time – now she’s 31) “let it be” all in chords (Same same/left and right hands)… She took to the keyboard and got lessons… I never did.
Now I have a nice little guitar and a keyboard on the way.
What great timing to find your courses.
You can ‘count’ me in!
(I’m sooo appreciative)
🙂
At 85 I am finishing up my Bucket List. I have spent over 29 years as a piano Tech, the bad part I didn’t have to know how to play. I have been a pastor for 56 years and always had someone to Play for me. I have traveled the U S over preaching and singing but always had someone else to Play. Now that I cannot travel and hardly walk, I spend most of my time on the internet Listening and singing along with the old hymns I have loved so much. I looked down into my bucket the other day and found that all the time I was working on piano’s I told myself, that when I had the time I was going to learn how to play.. Your course ahs given me the feeling that at last I just might have found a way to empty my bucket. I still preach through the use of Skype to folk in 5 different states, but I can make this work well, Lord Willing.
Thank you for all the effort and love you have put into these lesson, Let the study begin.
Dr. C
Your comment is so inspirational! I just started learning how to play ?
I am getting it this is the best way to Learn keyboard
I wanna learn how to play within a month
For a special occasion
I want to be able to play the keyboard
I want to be able to play on the keyboard and sound as apro
I’ve always wanted my own keyboard, however it’s only now that I’m in my 50’s that I’ve had the means to buy one, the Rock jam Rj661, as I didn’t want to spend a lot of money in case I didn’t do well, and the time to learn. My mum also took lessons in piano for a number of years as a child, and she would like to try my keyboard to see if she can recall any of her skills, so we can have fun together practising. I’d also like my grandchildren to have the opportunity to try learning as well, if they’re interested. So this is for our pleasure, and my hopes of finally mastering an instrument, and I’m really grateful to you for the free tuition you are providing, so thank you very much.
Thank you very much sir in fact I am very grateful bcs I really enjoyed your teachings Soo much
Thanks
I have always wanted to play piano for myself, friends, and family. But I never got one. As we are all at home due to covid-19, I figure out that I can use the time to start learning. If I can master the basic now, I won’t have any issues for the future.
I want to learn to play piano because I love music and how it sounds
I want to be the best in my region and play piano on special occasions
The minute that I saw a special trick that I never learned anywhere else I said this site is for me. Thank so much.

I want to learn Piano within 3 months. Is it possible?
Everyone’s different and it depends on what you’re trying to do, but yes, there are multiple Piano Genius members who have performed in public within 3 months of joining without having ever had lessons before, which is very cool!
I started learning to sing at age 50. I’ve always wished I could sing but always thought it was something you are either born with or not. Over the past 10 months I’ve learned that it is possible to learn to sing. I see all Instructors with pianos and I’ve played some as a little girl along with the violin and guitar. I feel it will help me improve my singing and at the same time give me a beautiful hobby I can share with others. Thanks for your incredible classes. My digital piano is arriving today. I’m so excited
Nice!
í love it
I am a vocalist on my Church’s worship team. I want to learn piano to expand my musical and instrumental knowledge!
That’s perfect Steve, we’ve had multiple members join for that exact same reason. 🙂
Im 80 years old and two things I’ve always wanted to learn. One – to swim and two- to play piano. I took swimming lessons and only learned to float! I still want to learn to play piano
Swimming is overrated, ha ha! (At least you don’t have to hold your breath to play the piano!) Welcome, glad you’re here. 🙂
Aloha Tim,
I want to learn to play piano so that I can teach my elderly father to play. He needs meaning in his life. Music is one of my favorite things. I play the drums for pleasure, but my dad is not a drummer. He always tolerated my drumming when I was growing up. He bought me a set of drums too. Now I want to give my dad something to do to enjoy while I’m at work…and at home when I’m there. He loves music, but to learn an instrument is difficult. I am hoping to learn the basics of piano/organ so that he and I can play music together. It will give us something to enjoy together, and it will keep his mind and body active. It may also give me another musical skill that I could utilize in the future…I love keyboards and synthesizers…and Rock and Roll!
Thank You For Your Kindness!
That’s wonderful, John!
excellent
I have played bass guitar for over 40 years but have always wanted to play piano. Just always thought I had started wanting to a little to late. I recently retired and thought there was no better time to learn since I now have a lot of free time. So I purchased a piano and went to a piano teacher. I have taken about 6 months when my piano teacher moved out of my area. So I came to the net. Then I found you and now I am excited about finally learning how to play songs and just have fun.
thanks for your time and attention. Best regards,
I love really to sing and want to accompany my singing with a piano myself playing it like a pro…thank you very much for your unique style oof teaching the piano…God bless you
???
Thanks. for the tutorial
just wanted to learn so I could teach my son
Excellent… It’s so easy to turn kids off of playing the piano if it’s approached the wrong way, and you’d know how to keep your son interested more than anyone else. 🙂
looking to start creating music/producing
Great… The basics of “the number system” of how to build chords and scales applies really well to figuring out keyboard parts to add to song recordings, enjoy the journey. 🙂
Very useful and interesting.
As a beginner
It is encouraging because it s not difficult to understand and it explaines detail very simply and comprehensive
And thus as a new learner you wont be frustrated and discourage
Instead you re motivated to learn more.
This lesson is excellent.
I recommend it stronly
i’m really thankful for your assistance. day by day i play a keyboard just because your giudence
i want to learn and play to church to give glory to him
Excellent, there are numerous people who have also come here to play in church as well!
i have been playing as normal. But your techniques seems to be amazing. I will be using it for music ministry as well to teach a group of kids in my family including my kids and my sisters kids to raise them up for the Lords field. Thanks a lot God Bless You
I would I would like to learn how to play make you feel my love by Adele for my 11th anniversary on January 11th. Can you help me?
Thanks for the note!
I want to be able to play the piano because I’m a singer and I would like to accompany myself while singing. I’ve discovered that when I want to sing and someone tries to play for me, he only succeeds in distracting me.
I sing songs country style and several pianists find it difficult to flow with me. I therefore decided to learn how to play the piano myself.
Excellent! You can play very simply when you’re accompanying yourself on piano, and like you said, when you’re playing it yourself you don’t have somebody else awkwardly moving to a new chord when you’d rather hold out a note longer before continuing on.
Good lessons
